KOLKATA: An FIR has been registered against TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee at the Bidhannagar North Cyber Crime Police Station for allegedly making inflammatory statements ahead of the elections, making remarks regarding the playing of DJs and issuing statements against Union home minister Amit Shah.On Friday, Banerjee accused the Centre of allowing violence to erupt in West Bengal after the assembly election results and alleged that the counting process was manipulated during the recently concluded polls. In a post on X, the Trinamool Congress general secretary alleged that party candidates and counting agents were forcibly removed from several counting centres and claimed that central government employees controlled the counting process. “To every soldier of the Trinamool Congress family, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your courage, resilience, and relentless fight for justice. Despite an extremely difficult and compromised election, you never gave up hope,” Banerjee wrote. He further alleged that post-poll violence broke out across Bengal after the results were declared. “After the results, Bengal witnessed shocking post-poll violence despite repeated promises of protection by the Centre. Central forces remained mute spectators as our workers, offices, and homes were attacked and set ablaze,” he said. Banerjee also expressed condolences to families of those killed in the violence. “My deepest condolences to the families of those we lost in this struggle. Bengal has suffered immensely over the past few days, and such scenes are against the very spirit of our land,” he added. The TMC leader said the party would challenge the alleged irregularities through legal and constitutional means. “But this fight is far from over. We will challenge every illegality, manipulation, and abuse of power through every constitutional and legal avenue available to us. We have full faith in the Hon’ble Supreme Court and in the democratic institutions of this country,” he wrote. He alleged that in more than 100 seats, TMC candidates and counting agents were removed from counting centres and that the “mandate of the people was undermined”. Earlier on Thursday, Mamata Banerjee appeared before the Calcutta high court in connection with a public interest litigation related to alleged post-poll violence in the state after the 2026 Assembly election results. The petition was filed by advocate Sirsanya Banerjee, son of TMC leader and advocate Kalyan Banerjee. The plea alleged incidents of violence in several areas, including attacks on party offices and displacement of workers. Mamata Banerjee urged the court to ensure “immediate protection of people” and alleged that violence was taking place in front of the police. “In front of police they are doing hooliganism, burning,” she said. “Children are not spared, minorities are not spared, women are not spared. 10 of our workers have been murdered.” The TMC’s 15-year rule in Bengal ended after the Bharatiya Janata Party won 207 seats in the Assembly elections, restricting the TMC to 80 seats.
