AGRA: A scuffle broke out between police and locals in Mathura’s Kosi area after residents blocked the road to protest the death of a ‘Gau Rakshak’, who was allegedly run over by cattle smugglers. The situation escalated in the Chhata area when cow vigilantes began pelting stones at police following a lathi charge. Several police personnel and dozens of locals were injured, while around half a dozen police vehicles were vandalised during the unrest.Meanwhile, The Uttar Pradesh government has taken swift note of the death of a cow vigilante in Mathura’s Kosi area, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directing officials to take strict action against those responsible. “The accused will not be spared under any circumstances,” the chief minister said, stressing the state’s commitment to law enforcement. The incident took place near Navipur village under Kosi Kalan police limits, where Chandrashekhar, a local cow protection activist known as ‘Farsa Wale Baba’, was allegedly run over by suspected cattle smugglers while chasing a truck on his motorcycle. Police said the vehicle hit Chandrashekhar, leading to his death on the spot. One accused has been apprehended, while three others managed to flee. A search operation is underway to trace them. Chandrashekhar was known in the Braj region for his involvement in cow protection activities. His death triggered grief and anger among locals. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and security has been tightened in the area to prevent any further unrest. Police are also examining the vehicle involved and verifying claims related to cattle smuggling. Officials have urged people to maintain calm, while the Chief Minister reiterated that strict and immediate action will be taken and justice ensured.
