Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said the company’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system will soon begin remembering each driver’s individual preferences. Elon Musk’s remarks come after a user complained that the software keeps leaving carpool and express lanes before getting stuck in slower traffic. Musk said the vehicle will learn from a driver’s manual interventions and adjust its behavior over time, suggesting future versions of Tesla’s self-driving software will become more personalized.

Tesla user complains about the EV leaving faster lanes

The discussion started after X (formerly Twitter) user Whole Mars Catalog (@WholeMarsBlog) shared a post describing a common frustration while using Tesla’s Full Self-Driving system.“One thing that really frustrates me is when Tesla Self-Driving exits the carpool lane or express lane and then gets stuck in traffic,” the user wrote. “As I see everyone else whizzing by in the far left lane, I get extremely annoyed knowing I should be there too.”The user ended the post by asking Tesla’s software to respect driver settings, writing, “Respect the settings please….”

Elon Musk says Tesla will learn from driver behavior

Responding to the post, Elon Musk said Tesla is working on a feature that will allow the car to adapt to individual driving preferences.“The car will start to remember your specific interventions and match each person’s individual preferences,” Musk wrote on X.His comment suggests that future updates to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving software will learn from the times drivers manually override the system, allowing the vehicle to make decisions that better match each owner’s driving style.
