NEW DELHI: Defence minister Rajnath Singh has approved the transfer of DRDO-developed technologies for all conventional missile systems to Indian defence companies for production within the country, the defence ministry said on Tuesday.The move is aimed at accelerating indigenous missile manufacturing, reducing import dependence and expanding the role of domestic companies in India’s defence ecosystem.The ministry described the technology transfer as an “important milestone” in increasing industry participation and enabling the transition of missile systems from development to industrial production.“The provision will enable successful transition of missile system development to industrial production, reflecting the continued efforts of DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) to leverage the capabilities of the Indian industry for the development and manufacture of advanced defence systems,” the ministry said.Under the initiative, Indian defence companies will be able to undertake production of DRDO-developed conventional missile technologies, subject to applicable qualifications, certifications and regulatory requirements.The government said the move is intended to strengthen India’s domestic defence industrial base and expand manufacturing capabilities.The initiative will also create opportunities for Indian micro, small and medium enterprises and other technology partners to participate in missile production and related supply chains.The defence ministry said the initiative would increase domestic value addition while supporting the growth of India’s defence manufacturing sector.DRDO will continue to work with Indian industry to facilitate the transfer and absorption of advanced defence technologies, the ministry said.
